These Kokeshi dolls are characterized by the unique shapes and painted designs that vary from one craftsman to another. Influenced by local elements such as “Nebuta” festivals and Ainu patterns, these Kokeshi have a distinct regional color. The main style is with the head and body carved from a single piece of wood, although there are also some made in the Naruko style, which features a head that is fitted into the body.
