Produced in Zao Onsen, Yamagata Prefecture,
among others like Kaminoyama Onsen and Atsumi Onsen.
Though rooted in the Togatta tradition, Zao’s Kokeshi are distinct for their voluminous bodies. Their bodies are beautifully painted with layers of chrysanthemums and scattered cherry blossoms. The bobbed black hair adds to their charm, portraying a cheerful and friendly girl.
